Today, Plaça París was the venue for the tenth edition of the Awards for Loyalty to Public Transport. These awards, co-organised by the Conselleria d'Habitatge, Territori i Mobilitat del Govern de les Illes Balears, and Palma City Council, are in recognition of the most loyal users of public transport.
During the event, awards were presented to around twenty people who have stood out for their commitment to and intensive use of the public transport services of EMT Palma, interurban transport buses, metro and train transport in Majorca, and the BiciPalma bicycles. All these people, aged between 11 and 79, are role models for their commitment to sustainable mobility. The prizes were a sports watch, an electronic book and a folding bicycle, depending on the category and age of the winners.
This award ceremony is one of the highlights of the European Mobility Week, in which 1976 cities and towns from 44 countries across Europe are participating this year under the slogan "Shared Public Space". This slogan refers to the many benefits to society of living together and sharing public space, such as less noise and air pollution, more equity, more safety and a better overall quality of life.
The person who made the most trips with EMT Palma between July 2023 and August 2024 was Isabel Toro Acevedo, winner of the Public Transport Loyalty Award in the green card category, who made 2,971 trip.
EMT Palma also awarded prizes in the resident, minor, student and university categories, and in the large B pensioner card category. All of them received e-books, except for the minors, who received folding bicycles.
In the intermodality category, a prize was awarded to the person who made the most trips combining the interurban and urban public transport networks -TIB and EMT Palma. The winner made 755 combined trips.
On the other hand, the Majorcan Transport Consortium has awarded prizes in the categories intermodal card, children's profile, as well as youth, general and pensioner profiles. The winners received an e-book or a folding bicycle.
In addition, the BiciPalma loan service also recognised its most loyal users in the categories of most kilometres cycled, most bike trips and most mechanical bike trips. The winners received a sports watch.
The Managing Director of Mobilitat del Govern de les Illes Balears, Lorena del Valle; the Councillor for Mobility of Palma City Council, Antonio Deudero; the Managing Director of Mobility of the City Council, Antonio Román; the manager of SMAP, Lydia Pérez; and the manager of the EMT, Juanjo Elías, presented the awards.
The event was accompanied by the Son Rapinya band, conducted by Mario Errea.
